International Horticultural Exposition 2011 will be held for 178 days from April 28 to October 22 in the city of Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province in northwest China. The Expo is jointly sponsored by the State Forestry Administration (SFA), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), China Flower Association (CFA) as well as the Provincial Government of Shaanxi, and is organized by the Municipal Government of Xi’an.

Themed “”Eternal peace & harmony between nature & mankind, nurturing the future earth – a city for nature, co-existing in peace”, the Expo advocates the full utilization and remolding of nature while respecting and protecting nature, so that cities and Mother Nature can co-exist in harmony. More than 105 cities and institutions have registered for participation, and about 12 million visitors to the Expo are expected.

The Mascot of the International Horticultural Exposition Xi’an, China:
The primitive image of the Chang’an Flower is actually the city flower of Xi’an, the pomegranate blossom.
Hence the pomegranate is the core element of the design shape and the color of the Chang’an flower. In addition, the flower’s name is quite easy to remember, features what Xi’an is special for and echoes with the design concept of the exposition emblem.  The name of the mascot shares the same meaning as the emblem.
